Hack the Planet 2021 Competition

Hack the Planet is an entirely virtual international ideas competition that will bring together ideas from diverse communities living on the front-line in facing the challenges of the climate emergency and ocean sustainability across the Commonwealth, together with the technical resources to support the innovation of new solutions.

The competition aims to stimulate discussion around the development of new concepts relating to the sustainability of the ocean, incorporating satellite data and technologies. Solutions will be aligned to the 10 action areas of the Commonwealth Blue Charter. Moreover, Hack the Planet is an ideas competition for people from Commonwealth nations. It is run by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Satellite Applications Catapult.

Participants must submit ideas on how to solve the challenges of our ocean with concepts that include the power of imagery, connectivity or other applications from satellites. Your ideas should relate to one of the 10 challenges set out in the Commonwealth Blue Charter. Over the course of the next 5 months, ideas will be shaped and honed into a winning concept by ocean and satellite experts, which might win a prize of £10,000!
