European Caucus of Antigua and Barbuda Ambassadors and Honorary Consuls Donation to Medical Personnel
On Thursday, 4 June 2020, the European Caucus of Antigua and Barbuda Ambassadors and Honorary Consuls donated medical and other supplies to the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC).
The Caucus was formed in May 2020 to explore ways the diplomats in Europe can leverage their collective positions and networks to support the priorities of the Government to include opportunities to boost investment and trade and advocate on areas of importance to include derisking, graduation and reform of the multilateral financial system. The Caucus also supports the work of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority in promoting the destination across Europe and aims to contribute towards the further development of the social fabric of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Caucus meets once a month and comprises of:
- High Commissioner Karen-Mae Hill in the United Kingdom
- Ambassador Dario Item in Spain
- Ambassador Jihad Georges Aoun in Greece
- Honorary Consul Wolfgang Altmueller in Bavaria, Germany
- Honorary Consul Professor Dr Ivan Todorov in Bulgaria
- Honorary Consul Julien Hansen in Moscow, Russia.
The donation to the MSJMC was an expression of the Caucus’ appreciation to the Nurses, Doctors and Emergency Medical Services personnel who continue to give selfless service to protect us all. The donation consists of a laptop for use by the Infection Control Nurse to input data as well as supplies of hand sanitisers, antibacterial soaps, vitamin C tablets, multivitamins, energy bars, and hygiene products. A total of five hundred (500) parcels were delivered, sufficient to cover the total number of nurses and doctors who work at the Hospital. Moreover, all items were sourced from local suppliers Frank B. Armstrong Distributors and the Antigua Distillery Ltd. to ensure support for local businesses.
The Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Trade formally handed over the items to the MSJMC on behalf of the Ministry. Minister Greene conveyed his appreciation to Valerie Browne-Williams, the Wellness Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment for co-ordinating the collation of the items to be distributed.
The Caucus continues to work in partnership with the Halo Foundation for the Needy to support the Sunshine Home for Girls, the Ex-Servicemen’s Association, the St. Vincent de Paul, and the Grace Programme under the ‘YOU CAN HELP INITIATIVE’.
