Dr David Francis to Carry Antigua and Barbuda’s Flag at Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey

Antigua and Barbuda will be represented at the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey on Monday, 9 March 2026, by Dr David Francis, a Chevening Scholar specialising in infectious disease epidemiology.

Dr Francis has been selected as the flag bearer for Antigua and Barbuda during the annual service, a significant moment that brings together representatives from across the Commonwealth to celebrate shared values of unity, cooperation and partnership.

Ahead of the service, the Commonwealth Secretariat conducted a short interview with Dr Francis in which he reflects on the honour of carrying the national flag of Antigua and Barbuda and the significance of participating in one of the Commonwealth’s most symbolic events.

In the interview, Dr Francis shares his perspective as a scholar and public health professional, highlighting the importance of international collaboration, education and leadership within the Commonwealth community.

The Commonwealth Day Service, held each year at Westminster Abbey in London, is attended by members of the Royal Family, Commonwealth leaders, diplomats and representatives from across the 56 member states.

Dr Francis’ participation highlights the contributions of Antiguans and Barbudans studying and working abroad, and underscores the country’s continued engagement with Commonwealth initiatives in education, diplomacy and global cooperation.
